Approach

Valideo is a voluntary certification approach that makes it possible to express an appreciation for sustainable real-estate projects and that encourages the involved construction parties to design and carry out sustainable real estate projects.

Valideo allows them to evaluate and objectivy the overall performance of a construction project based on four principle themes:

  • Site & construction
  • Management
  • Comfort & health
  • Social value

Valideo supports the design and implementation process via progressive assessment by domain experts and encourages operators to improve the intrinsic quality of the building throughout the lifecycle.

Building life cycle

Through a transparent and controlled approach, the Valideo certification system provides an important visibility to certified buildings and organizations.

Valideo represents an investment designed to provide a quick financial return (savings in energy and exploitation costs) and over the long-term (resale value) by improving quality, comfort and social and environmental impact.

Valideo is the fruit of cooperation between recognized players in the construction industry. It is developed by researchers at BBRI in association with SECO and supported by BCCA (certification body). Each partner thus guarantees the best of his competences, namely development, credibility and support.

Methodology

The certification system is divided into two principal schemes:

  • scheme 1: constructions
  • scheme 2: organizations

The principal schemes are further subdivided in different specific schemes, according to the field of application.

More information on all certification schemes can be found here.

The system is governed by a regulation conprising regular controls and evaluations. The declaration of conformity, the decision regarding certification and registration are the mission of BCCA. BCCA has filed an accreditation request with the public authorities (Belac).

The attestations and audits are carried out by SECO on the basis of a progressive analysis. In addition, during the critical sustainable design phase, SECO's engineers document and support clients in making the choices they are faced with.
